March Week 1 recap

A whole new month filled with creative ideas and possibilities.

Started this month out with a series of paintings and collage work that I turned into bucket fillers.

In this reel above, I shared a little vignette into my process where I paint something abstract and colorful and then punched out shapes from it. Nothing goes to waste … not even the smallest slivers of painted strips. Add some rub ons, stamping, mixed media elements like texture paste and dried up paint peels, and suddenly those scraps look pretty stunning!

I also enjoyed customizing some more boxes that I shipped out handmade books and bucket filler kits in. Fingerpainting is such a relaxing, therapeutic activity for me and to be able to decorate these boxes in this simple, personal way brought me so much joy. I know that the recipients loved it, too, gathering from the social shares and personal messages I’ve received

I also worked on this series of bucket fillers for my upcoming Live Zoom Studio Hour for my membership community. I’ll be demonstrating how to make a series of paintings in a variety of different ways using a variety of different mediums on some different substrates. While I love to turn these into bucket fillers, there’s no reason why you couldn’t make a series of canvas paintings, cards, coasters or anything else you desire. If you don’t want to/can’t pay for a monthly or annual subscription, you can always purchase stand-alone video tutorials for specific techniques you’re interested in (although, it’s a much better deal if you’re able to get the subscription because these Zoom meetings are just one perk of joining!).

You can see me applying the same techniques of creating a series in this custom order of a set of bucket fillers for cat lovers. It’s fun, it’s easy and it’s so rewarding to see a body of work come together with repetitive elements.

Also, this week I played a lot with acrylic inks maneuvering them with air and water, learning how the medium interacts at different stages of being wet/dry and the viscosity differences between the colors (yellow flows very differently than blue!). It was a whole lot of fun to play and learn at the same time and I might be addicted to this particular form of abstract art for the rest of this month! More to come…

And while I am busy doing all of this in my studio, I am spending a lot of evenings researching and writing — yes, the book proposal still needs to be turned in! No complaints, though … I’ll take this kind of busy any day :)

I’d love to hear from you: what have you been up to this past week?

Hope y’all have a wonderful week ahead. I’ll check in with more updates next week.

XOXO Mansi.
