A Day of Gluttony
Darien Gee hosts something really cool every week in the form of a 10-Minute Micro Prose Writing Session.
I’ve never been able to join, because—life. But today, I happened to pop in when there was a minute left. Saw the prompt, “Tell me about yesterday,” and my fingers started flying on the keyboard.
This is what resulted—unedited, unfiltered, stream-of-consciousness writing:
Rest, work, the usual
Many short walks with the pup
Cloudy skies, mid-summer winter
Breakfast, lunch and dinner
A rarity for me
Chicken, cereal, more chicken
I stress-eat
Paper plus presence
A new collab
Getting out of my way
To create connection
A conversation about
Courage and how to share
Freely, uninhibitedly
Chicken, hummus, more chicken
Wore my Elastique leggings
To curb the hunger pangs
Tightness, discomfort
Controlling the wantonness
Of letting-go
Keeping it in
Hurts more
Chicken, salad, rice fritters
Watching Poker Face while
Typing emails
Why do people lie?
Is it self-preservation or
Simply habit?
Top Chef might be a dangerous
Thing to binge on
Tiramisu, too sweet
More chicken.
Kiddo’s theater practice ends late
“I’m hungry,” the first words
As I pick her up.
She wants a banana boat
Granola, chia seeds, cake crumbles
“Make it healthy,” I say
Lemon cookies stare back at me
From the kitchen counter
I resist.
Perhaps, a cup of
Stomach-Ease will help.
No dinner tonight I vow
But then Last Chance Kitchen
Makes me hungry again
Chicken, dosa, some chutney on the side.
Emptiness.
Maybe sleep will
Pay a visit
Tonight.
